Main Characteristics of Austenitic Stainless Steel Pipe

What Is Austenitic Stainless Steel Pipe?

Nickel (Ni) and chromium (Cr) are the main alloying elements that form austenite, so we usually mention nickel content when introducing our stainless steel pipes to customers, which shows that nickel content is an important standard for reflecting the quality of austenitic stainless steel pipes.

Nickel is an important metal element to improve the corrosion resistance of stainless steel pipes, but the corrosion resistance of nickel will only play its role if it is combined with chromium, after adding 8% nickel to the steel with a chromium content of 18%, and the carbon content is about 0.1%, nickel can expand the passivation capacity of stainless steel pipes, improve the oxidation resistance of stainless steel pipe surfaces, and greatly improve the corrosion resistance of stainless steel pipes.

This ratio of stainless steel at a temperature below 1000 degrees, solution treatment, with the help of rapid cooling can become what we often call austenitic stainless steel pipe (also known as: 18-8 type chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steel pipe). What is austenitic stainless steel pipe?

What Are the Main Characteristics of Austenitic Stainless Steel Pipe?

First, first of all, it has high corrosion resistance, needless to say, it will generally not rust in the normal use environment.

Second, austenite is generally non-magnetic at room temperature, but sometimes shows weak magnetism during cold working. That's why, our stainless steel square tubes and rectangular tubes sometimes have weak magnetism. When the steel strip is produced into stainless steel pipe, it is first rolled into a round pipe, then welded, and then the four corners are extruded to make a square pipe or rectangular tube, which is completed by cold working.

Third, it has good ductility and plasticity, generally not easy to deform after molding, austenitic stainless steel pipe can not change its mechanical properties by heat treatment, can only be strengthened by cold working to deform. This characteristic is widely used in the secondary processing of stainless steel pipes, such as the bending processing of stainless steel pipes and the production of stainless steel anisotropic pipes.

Fourth, austenitic pipe also has a very important feature is weldability, weldability is austenitic pipe can be widely used in one of the very important characteristics, almost all of our stainless steel pipe production and production are welded, austenitic pipe in the welding, can ensure that welding is not easy to deform, welding place to maintain firm.
